Danielle Colby born December 3, is an American reality television personality who co-stars on the History reality television show American Pickers. In May , she told WQAD-TV that "fame and notoriety are not easy for him to deal with at all, so the relationship ended up not working out". While living with her family in Chicago , she attended a burlesque performance starring comedian Margaret Cho and dancer Satan's Angel. This prompted in her a desire to become a burlesque dancer; and, after she moved back with her family to the Quad Cities area of Iowa, she created the professional burlesque troupe Burlesque Le Moustache , with nine performers, including Colby herself under the stage name Dannie Diesel, touring eastern Iowa and western Illinois. For many, LeClaire resident Danielle Colby-Cushman is best known as a co-star of the History Channel's hit reality series American Pickers , and the office manager for the city's collectibles shop Antique Archeology. And for those who have either not heard of this unique company of entertainers - performing at Davenport's Capitol Theatre on April 24 - or are unsure of what it is they do, Colby-Cushman offers an example, taken from troupe member Birdie Belleville's striptease debut. We were looking at this book at my friend's house, and there's a picture of Sedaris with granny panties on and pantyhose underneath, like, rolling around in sprinkles and whipped cream, and it's hilarious. And I was like, 'Ya gotta do this, because if you don't, I'm doin' it. And she rocked the house. It's about funny. And if you don't have the comedy in there, you're just taking yourself way too seriously.
Having a burlesque festival in the Quad-Cities has been a dream of Danielle Colby's since she started her own troupe, Burlesque Le'Moustache, in I wanted to make sure it would go off the way it was supposed to," she said. Despite the different looks and types of music, Colby said, all of the acts are an homage to the past. The showmanship of it is, I think, the draw of it more than anything," she added. Colby, 37, said that although the thrust of performing burlesque is taking off clothing, it's not as risque or revealing as it was 50 or 60 years ago. It cracks me up because these people don't have any trouble going to see rated-R movies, but they have a problem with a classic art form. In France, where Colby also has a house with her French-born husband, they have more of a throwback to old-school burlesque, she said, with fewer laws and restrictions in a Moulin Rouge-type of environment. You watch these ladies onstage and oftentimes you forget that they're nude because the entertainment quality is so high," she said. This is a way women can still feel sexy and intelligent and own their curves and not make apologies for their bodies or what some considered to be the flaws on their bodies. It just looks different than it did 20, 40 or 50 years ago.
